What actually happens when they receive it
The box is designed
to work without instructions.

The box arrives. Matte oat exterior. The “+” wax seal. One line on the outside: “Someone is thinking of you.”

The card comes first. Your message on the front. “Whenever you’re ready. The oven does the rest.” on the back. One blank line: “One memory of them, written here.”

They unwrap each parcel. Every item has a small label — name and prep on one side, the grief label on the other. “Sunday Morning.” “The good butter.” “Something warm to hold.” Some will make them cry. That’s the point.

They preheat the oven. Make the coffee. Fourteen minutes. The house fills with warm bread smell. They pull the croissants apart. Spread the good butter. Stay sitting.
